Day 14

This is the second to last day of camp. I have been working my butt off trying to finish up everything. My intro is completely done but I have a lot of problems with the code. It is stressing me out.
I have to work on my knols!!
I'm surprised how quickly these past three weeks went. I have to make a website for my flash program.

Day 13

Dear Blog,
I have been having a good time these past few days!
I made an awesome waffle today at break. It had banana, chocolate chips, and walnuts. Needless to say, I got super full.
I got a good massage from the massage chair once I toughed it out through the painful parts.
I finished keyboard cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started another rotoscope for the intro portion of my apps. It's a cat of course but the cat is running. Luckily youtube had a cat cycle video to copy over which made it so much easier.
I will probably work on my project at home tonight.

Day 12

I sang in rock band today during lunch. It made me nervous :S
I also played some drums but I'm not very good at playing the drums.
I made myself a delicious waffle for breakfast and have made very good progress on my application. I added an old lady sitting on the couch and a cat sitting next to her. I have also made many more frames on my keyboard cat portion. I think I'll be done soon. I'm about 70% done with keyboard cat. I make a lot of cat applications. Oops

Day 11

Today was sooooo good!
Google is really awesome. They have a rock climbing wall and an x box and many other things below the cafeteria. The cafeteria has delicious food. I wish I could actually work at Google because they definitely treat their employees well.
My app is coming along nicely. I made one of those kit cat clocks and its eyes and tail move. Also, when you hit the button to launch the cats, it makes a meowing sound.
The massage chair here hurts my body. It squeezes my calves and pinches my spine :(
I am pretty sure the rest of the week will be awesome!

Day 10

It was a good way to wrap up the week with the things that we did today.
I finished the basic part of my rotoscope and continued to extend on it.
I helped brainstorm for other ways to manipulate apps as the final project.
I played spoons at lunch after we ate at The Sink which was delicious. We were allowed to walk around on the hill when we were done.
I really want a digital tablet! I feel it would good get use. It was finally hot out today :)
I am excited to go work at google next week!

Day 9

Today seemed to be pretty low key.
We were shown a few techniques using Adobe Illustrator which was pretty confusing to me.
I worked a lot on my rotoscope and it's been coming along nicely.
Math was about networks and circuits.
At lunch, a few of us set up an obstacle course using the furniture in the lounge. At one part, we were supposed to roll on the floor using a stool with wheels but I ended up getting rug burn on the tops of each of my feet.
Programming was pretty easy and I think it's getting easier to understand.
My feet tops are burning :(

Day 8

Today was one of my favorite days so far!
We learned how to rotoscope which is drawing images over videos and I really like that technique. I definitely think I'm going to use that in my final project. I still don't know what I'll do for that and google Knol still won't let me on! D:
We reviewed a bit of Pythagorean theorem in math and calculating angles with trigonometry. We also had a tour set up at the ITLL which was really neat. They showed us the different things they make there and there was a bunch of stuff to play with in the lobby and upstairs too. We saw a protocol of a wrench made out of plastic by this one machine. I thought it was cool that machine made it.
We had lunch back at Atlas and went back outside because the weather is finally being nice. Some people played ultimate frisbee but I ended up playing spoons with a few other people who also didn't play frisbee.
Programming can tend to be frustrating but I'm always pleased with the final product. I love taking my stuff home to show my family because they are always impressed.

Day 7

Today was better than yesterday. I didn't feel very sick which helped a lot.
We learned how to make a pretty cool cloudy/rocky scene as a background and turn it into a nested clip so that it could be used over and over again without using much space in the flash program.
During math, we learned about population growth and the equations to go along with it. It was pretty easy and used exponents which I am pretty familiar with.
We got a tour of Libby Hall again but this time it was dorms that we saw. The rooms were tiny! They were smaller than my room (which I consider puny) and you have to share with another person. That would take some getting used to (and tolerance)!
During programming, we made some applications pertaining to the population growth. The first one I made was with a button you can click to double sloths on the screen. It's pretty funny.

Day 6

Today was another average day.
Although, we took a tour of the Atlas building and it was really interesting to see all of the different types of things that can go on here. I saw stuff for news casts and stage production and learned about the equipment that goes along with each.
Math was fun because it was a little more interactive. We got to flip coins haha.
During programming, we made an application based on Monty Hall probability. It was pretty crazy.
It was a little tough getting through today because I think I have some sort of sickness. But, I'm glad I stayed because I wouldn't have liked to miss out!

Day 5

Today was another good day!
We watched a really cute movie in the art portion of the day called Water Lollies. I liked it a lot. Holy cow, though, that animation must have taken forever!
We did some fun probability activities in math and usually I don't like probability. But I did today.
In programming, I had the chance to work on some of my apps that aren't finished yet. I still have a bit to do and I still have to make my Knol on google. :(
It seems like a lot of work now but I know I have the whole next week to work on it.
I showed my family a few of my animations and they were impressed!

Day 4

Today was a good day.
I really enjoyed the art portion as usual! We had to animate pieces of a man, essentially, and create other elements to go along with him from there. He was walking. I had a ton of fun animating mine. That was probably one of my favorite things we've done so far.
We had break and from there we walked to the Fiske Planetarium for a lesson with this huge globe.
It was so cool. They had four projectors on a central sphere and the animations would change from there. Although we didn't get to go in the actual planetarium, exploring the lobby and things of the like were just as entertaining. I bought an alien keychain from the vending machine.
At lunch, we were allowed to sit around campus which was neat. It was finally nice outside and I was actually getting a little hot sitting out in the sun.
During programming, we made an application to calculate water percentage if it rose from the ice caps melting. Coming up with the equation for the percentage was pretty difficult.

Day 3

Today seemed to be a regular day. We followed the schedule of art, math, and programming.
I really enjoy the art portion because I can pay attention to what is being taught as well as working on my own animations along the way. I tried to make it look like a robot walking and I still have a lot more to do.
For math, we calculated interest on home loans or bank accounts or things similar. Luckily, I had an easy time with it because we learned about that at school pretty close to the end of the school year. It was still fresh in my mind.
The applications that we are making with code are starting to look cooler and cooler. I saved part of the one we did today on my flash drive so I can take it home and show my family. I think they just might be impressed haha

Day 2

Today I learned about Price Indexing and Inflation equations.
I found the math to be easy.
We toured Libby Hall and ate there for lunch. It was like getting a taste of the college life.
When we came back, we learned about code for a different application. I followed mostly online by the instructions written there.

Day 1

Today I started my first day at the Digital CUrrents camp. I was nervous before coming because I didn't know exactly what to expect or who would be there. To my surprise, three others from my school were here.
We covered the topic of Venn Diagrams which was a lot of review for me but a good review nonetheless.
We also learned about different classifications of numbers such as integers and imaginary types.
Lastly, most of our learning time was devoted to flash programs and coding to go with the flash programs which was entirely new information for me. It'll be interesting to build on those skills throughout the next three weeks.
By the way, the food was delicious from Panera. I really think I'll be looking forward to the next three weeks. Not just because of the food... but everything else... haha
